"Pearls of the Ministry" is a new series where Pastor Mendes, our Church, and Ministry Leadership Consultant, unfolds the precious and enriching experiences he has gathered throughout his 40 years as a planter and senior pastor of First Baptist Church in Atibaia, Brazil. Within this series, these pearls symbolize memories, personal growth, and the profound impact on individuals, the church, and himself. They reveal transformative encounters echoing the grace of God.
During the initial years of ministry at the First Baptist Church of Atibaia, the congregation welcomed a family grappling with challenges. The father was navigating a tumultuous period marked by family crises, stemming from a divorce and remarriage. Three daughters from his first marriage joined him and his second wife, adding a layer of complexity to their blended family. The primary hurdle was adapting to this new reality, particularly with the three daughters now living alongside the younger children from the second marriage. Delving into the numerous trials this man faced in managing this novel family dynamic with all the children together is beyond the scope of this narrative.
You might wonder: Where is the pearl in such a complex situation? The pearl is the father! This man, by embracing a dignified commitment and a desire to faithfully obey the Word of God, evolved into one of the remarkable members and friends that God brought to my ministry. His humble demeanor and willingness to follow pastoral guidance in cultivating a deep relationship with the Lord rendered him so admirable that he rightfully deserves acknowledgment as one of the pearls in our ministry. The pearl did not emerge in isolation; alongside him is his wife, a blessed woman. Perfection in this journey was not the reality, but God's intervention by His grace restored them to a point where today I regard him as a pearl of immeasurable value."For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation for all people." Titus 2:11.
