Stephen, a leader, prepared for death

The exact origin of Stephen, a hero of the Christian faith, is not known. The Bible mentions very little about his history. But the little that is mentioned is of unquestionable richness. He was a leader prepared for death. He was an actual martyr. Being a martyr is not for everyone; it is necessary to be a leader fully aware of their call and willing to do anything to honor it and glorify the one who called them.

Imagine if Stephen lived in our pandemic days. Would he settle for closed churches? We saw a few leaders standing up and questioning and demanding the opening of churches while considering all the necessary precautions. Stephen was an extraordinary martyr. His word was irresistible, along with his authority, courage, and wisdom of the Spirit (Acts 6:10). The officers raised false witnesses against him (Acts 6:13). In the face of threats from the authorities, he proceeds to tell the story of Israel (Acts 7:1-50) and boldly accuses the authorities (Acts 7:51-53). The end of the story is just fantastic! Stephen's life is an example for all of us.

Stephen was a leader prepared by God for death. At the beginning of the clash, his opponents are surprised by Stephen's appearance. They saw that his face was like an angel (Acts 6:15). God has provided us with one of the most beautiful stories of justice. First, we see the accusers' desperate reaction in Acts 7:54." Hearing this, they raged in their hearts and gnashed their teeth against Stephen." Acts 7:57 says," They shouted, and covering their ears, they rushed together against them." Now see how God prepares someone who will die. He saw the glory of God and Jesus standing at the right hand of God (Acts 7:55). At the end of his life, he says, "Lord, receive my spirit, and at last show your forgiving heart (Acts 7:60).

It is worth suffering for Jesus because there is no suffering capable of displacing peace, the joy of seeing heaven open to receive us in the final moments.
