The Importance of Assessment at Lead by the Name!

An assessment at Lead by the Name is an organic process of building a deep relationship with partners. It is based on an honest intentionality of listening and caring, as well as a giving and receiving mindset. The assessment aims to define, select, collect, analyze, interpret, and use the information to learn about the person or organization.

The assessment is the most critical and essential part of any Lead by the Name project. It includes four phases: Building Relationships, Identifying needs, Analyzing Gaps, and Designing Projects.

1. Build a relationship – Building a relationship is essential for our vision. At the end of any project, we most want to get to know them—an ongoing mutual encouragement across cultures and countries. To establish that relationship, one must know their names, families, strengths, and struggles. We create an experience in person or online where we learn about their vision.

2. Identify the needs – Most of the time, the needs will become apparent as the relationship is being formed. Getting to know the leader or organization deeply will bring to light their current state, the reality they are living in, and the goals of where they want to be. These areas will help us identify gaps where we can genuinely serve our partners.

3. Gap Analysis - The importance of this step is a root-cause analysis and culture awareness. By learning those realities, we can identify empowerment opportunities and how we can better serve them.

4. Design a project - We begin to establish outcomes and commitments, understand the risks and constraints, and estimate the budget.

The assessment is not just a one-time meeting or visit. We walk alongside a leader and it can take time before we start a project. The organizations or leaders we want to partner with are the ones who have a huge heart to see God working in their communities. But perhaps there is a lack of opportunities or resources, and that will make it harder to reach their goals. There is no one-size-fits-all approach to leadership and organizational development. That’s why we begin with an assessment.
