The Soccer Pitch Becomes a Mission Field
In 2022, a local church in São Paulo, Brazil, approached Lead by the Name and introduced them to a vocational leader who wanted to serve the Kingdom with his talents and gifts. But he needed help developing a business plan.
Lead by the Name and the church decided that the one-on-one mentoring program would be the best place to start. A consultant from the team began by getting to know Wellington Carlos de Amorim better and understanding the dream he had. Wellington Carlos de Amorim, known as Lello, was a professional soccer player. In the 2000s, he even played on a Champion team. Lello desired to use these skills and gifts to serve the Kingdom. A plan was beginning to be put in place.
After finishing the one-on-one program, Lello moved into the organizational development program and got help creating a business plan. After brainstorming many ideas, they decided on “business as a mission.”
Lello, with the help of Lead by the Name, developed Treinador Lello, a company focused on three main areas:
Vem Pro Fute - Training and development for soccer players
Lello Sports - A career agency for athletes
Fut Dream - Free training and development for young soccer players who can’t afford typical training fees
The project started in January 2023 and now has around 46 kids enrolled. One of Lello’s goals is to develop players that will be driven, Christ-centered, and, Lord willing, equipped to share their faith as missionary players. Lead by the Name is very excited to see what God is doing and what He will do through Treinador Lello.
Here’s what Lello shared about his experience:
The One-on-One mentoring program at Lead by the Name was essential to help me organize my thoughts and vision. I felt challenged and encouraged to move forward with God’s vision. The organizational development program is very professional and strategic. Putting together the business plan at the same time, keeping my heart with the fire for serving the kingdom. I feel that I am prepared for what God has for this business.
Listen to Lello' s testimony.
