Challenges in Ministry: The Journey of a Young Christian Couple with a Divine Calling
Why do young Christian couples with a calling struggle to find a ministry where they can serve full-time? Reflecting on the journey of young Christian couples called to serve—and those we are mentoring—reveals a reality marked by challenges, obstacles, and unexpected turns (Christ-centered, meant to shape their character). Despite their determination and sincere desire to serve God’s Kingdom, they face the difficult task of finding a ministry where people will trust their potential, which often feels discouraging in our day.
It is crucial to recognize that the local church often does not understand or provide opportunities for young couples. They encounter barriers and skepticism from those who question their ability and maturity to take on significant ministry responsibilities. This lack of confidence may stem from their age, lack of experience, or the church’s failure to recognize their gifts and talents. Faced with seemingly closed doors and a lack of support, the couple may feel discouraged and even consider giving up on their calling. Yet we come across the verse in Matthew 9:37: "The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few." Are there already enough workers for the harvest? Sorry, but clearly not!
It is worth remembering that God is faithful, and His timing is never late. Just as He called Jeremiah from the womb, He has also equipped and prepared these young people to serve in His Kingdom. Despite the adversity, God can open unexpected doors and raise up people willing to believe in their potential. It is the local church’s responsibility to create spaces for the couple to grow, develop, and be strengthened—refining their gifts and talents and shaping their character to look more like Jesus Christ. In moments of discouragement and uncertainty, unwavering faith and trust in God’s provision are essential. With perseverance, a pursuit of opportunities to serve, and the cultivation of meaningful relationships, the couple can trust that God is at work in their hearts and circumstances.
Even in the face of challenges, may this couple find comfort in God’s constant presence and unconditional love. May they remember who called them to this task and that their ministry journey is sustained by the grace and providence of a heavenly Father. May they remain steadfast in their faith, confident in the hope they have in Christ, and find encouragement in the fellowship of the saints. And as they navigate these challenges, may they find support in loving brothers and sisters, mentoring pastors, and the prayers of those around them, receiving strength and courage to persevere in their divine calling until they are ready for the harvest, for His glory and the good of His people.
