Embracing the Gift of Spiritual Correction

The Lord’s corrections in a leader’s life are not always pleasant, since they can cause us pain. However, we must not forget that the corrections that come upon us are from the God who loves us and does them for our good. Through the Lord’s corrections, we benefit from the results they produce in our lives.

In Hebrews 12:11, it is said that discipline, rather than being accepted with joy, is often received with sadness. However, later we see that it produces the fruit of righteousness and peace. In addition, 2 Timothy 3:16-17 emphasizes that correction is instruction in righteousness, that is, teaching that makes us capable and fully equipped for every good work.

That is why God’s Word warns us in Proverbs 15:32 not to ignore correction.

When we take it seriously, we show the care of becoming people of understanding. Thus, the Lord’s correction in a leader’s life should be seen by him as a great blessing, care, and instruction. This is because a leader is an influencer, for good or for bad. We must be watchful in everything God wants us to be in our actions, so that those who follow us will see us as trustworthy people. Titus, sent by Paul to organize the churches in Crete, is urged to make sure that his conduct was exemplary in everything (Titus 2:7). I emphasize the blessing of instruction in righteousness. Righteousness is the standard of honesty, truth, and integrity. God’s righteousness is upright and full of mercy. He reproves and condemns unrighteousness because it brings destruction and death.

Therefore, being instructed in righteousness means that, despite our imperfections, we should act as God would act. To do this, we leaders must be sensitive to the voice of God’s Spirit, always watching our actions and receiving the Lord’s corrections, which will be beneficial to our work.
